Project finished!

26.05.2013:

It's over =(( All assets for Javier are finished and so our work together ends. At least for now. He mentioned that he thinks about making another small game at the end of this year. It would be great to work with him again =)

Besides that I did another one of those imaginative sketches. Don't ask me what it is supposed to be, I couldn't really concentrate :/ Also did some more color studies.

But now on to the good news, or at least I hope they will turn out good. Currently I'm in negotiations with a start up based in Boston. They asked me to do one of their characters in the style I would imagine for the game as a little test. I didn't had much time for it today, because I had to finish up the work for Javier. But I at least did manage a fast sketch and will do another one for them on Wednesday when I'm back! So hopefully I will have a new job soon and can keep learning and improving while doing actual contract work.

Master study

22.05.2013:

Oh my gosh, on week is already over and so today will start the second week of the art camp and therefor a bunch of new assignments is coming up. For last week I managed to get 50/50 3-value compositional studies done *applause*, 15/50 color studies =( and the first W.I.P. for the first of three full studies ='(. But still I worked besides this and I painted so much more in one week than I usually do. I think with every week I will get more in the drill and I hope that at the end of the program it is totally normal for me to paint and draw all day. So I still have a lot of freelance work to do this week, so I will directly start with it tomorrow morning and try to get as done as soon as possible, so that I can start onto the studies again. Work always goes first! But I'm sure I find a way to manage both. So let's see how this will turn out.

For now here the first W.I.P. for a full master study. It's "Storm" by Albert Bierstadt. Really love this painting and I hope with a lot more work I will do it justice. =D

Color studies

Hi guys, today is all about color. Taking the pieces of some old masters and really getting the colors right is much harder than it sounds. Really love this assignment. Some match up pretty well others need a closer look. But it's fascinating when you are done and start putting the reference and the study next to each other at the same size at a new sheet. Then the truth will be revealed. Haha.

Also today I was in the Google Office here in Berlin as part of the Mentorship Program I applied to and luckily got in. It was amazing. And I think through this, which will help me to improve as freelancer and the art camp which will help me to improve as artist I'm on the right track to get a big step forward this year regarding my career and dreams. So I'm really looking forward to what else this year has to offer. Until now it already has been amazing =D

Hi guys, today I kept pumping out those compositional studies. Decided to do also some traditional ones. Unfortunately the later it got the more they turned into drawing instead of comp studies. But I still learned a lot. Eager for tomorrow, planed to finish up all the rest to the final 50. =D

 Today I managed to finish the first milestone of the current contract with Javier. Also I did another compositional study in the evening. Really tried to analyze the values afterwards. The reference you will see in tomorrows post. See yah!

Noah's Art Camp

16.05.2013:

Hi guys, really exciting news today. Yesterday I found out that Noah Bradley started an online art course which goes on for three months and helps you improve your fundamentals as well as your imaginative work. If you are interested, check it out here.

The current assignment is to do 50 3-value compositional studies, 50 color studies and 3 fully rendered studies of old master paintings. And this all in one week next to your usual workload. So I'm very excited to be part of it. Here the first value comp studies I did. I did them more then ones, to really find out how to approach these. I hope in the next days I will only need one per painting and also get a bit faster. Wish me luck! =D
