End of milestone #2

29.03.2013:

Hi guys, heres todays work. I finished the charging and flying animation of the fireball for the dragon ball z like character. And with that finished the whole milestone. I also got directly paid for it and Javier is already enjoying his graphics. That's the kind of guy I love to work with. So thumbs up for Javier and on to the the next and most time consuming milestone: backgrounds!

Fireball design

28.03.2013:

Hi guys, here the concepts for the fireball. I went from kinda normal ones to totally crazy and abstract ones. You can find out tomorrow which one Javier choose! Until then. Cheers!

Toss it!

27.03.2013:

Today the throwing animations for the two objects. I'm not really sure how exactly he wanna implement it. Because I think it would have been better to draw the actual objects within this part of the animation, like I will do it with the fireball animation. But it's his game right :D If he should find out it won't work this way, I will add it into it for him. But let's see how it will turn out ;)

And it's the same animation, but one of them has one frame more than the other. So yeah nothing fancy about that!

Boomerang

26.03.2013:

Hiho =) Here now the concept for batman's boomerang. And also the ""flying animation" for it. It will also give a throwing animation. But not today =D

If you are like, omg why is this so small, I can't see anything. That's the in game size. Live with it! ;)

Start of milestone #2

25.03.2013:

Hi guys =) Here the initial idea for batmans smoke bomb. I used a picture from the internet for reference, because you never will see any details of it - it's only 30x30 pixels. But what the smoke bomb does to the enemies you will definitively see. So that's what this sheet is about :D

Milestone #1 completed!

23.03.2013:

Hi pals, today is the best day ever. I completed the first milestone and got paid! My first money for doing what I love freelance. I can't believe it just yet! :D :D :D

And here the last animation. It's the "walking" animation of the dragonball z like character. He is floating :3

Ninja turtle power!

22.03.2013:

Hehe, I love this animation.

attack animation enemy #1 (photoshop cs6)

The rest of the day I spent cleaning up all files and making sure that all transparencies and positions are right. Afterwards I saved all the png-files for the spritesheets. Damn, that took a lot of time. But I'm near the completion of the first milestone :3

Attack animations

21.03.2013:

And there I'm again. Still totally excited about this project and happy to be part of it :D

Here now my first attack animations. Javier loves them, which makes me really happy. But I still have so much to learn and can't wait to see where I'm in a year if I keep working this hard.

Oh and surely they won't loop the whole time, it's simply for presentation issues.

Spawn!!!

20.03.2013:

Today is bad ass day :D

Did the walking animation of the spawn like character. He walks much slower as all the other enemies because he is superior. It took quite a lot of time to do this one, because his gloves and shoes are different on each side. Also he has this freaking big axe and the living cape. But I really dig this character. It's awesome. I love it! Hardest to do but also the most fun! I think I will do his attack animation next.

Ninja turtle walking animation

19.03.2013:

For today only the walking animation for the ninja turtle like character. It will get more exciting soon I promise. One walking animation left and then the attack animations will start. Boom!

:'((

18.03.2013:

Hi guys, if you are wondering why there aren't any posts over the weekend. My iMac and/or Photoshop are hating me. Photoshop kept crashing all the time, no way to work this way. And after reading a lot of forum posts and guides how to fix this problem I decided to set up my iMac fresh. I never did this before it was running without problems for 3 years now. Besides that I also have a graphic error in my display. It's huge :( Seems like I'm not the only one with this problem, but after three years there is no guarantee which will take care of the costs :/

Does someone else now this problem?

Okay but back to business. Now my iMac is fresh, somehow the Photoshop error disappeared and I'm happy about that at least :) So here the walking animation of the power ranger like enemy. I try to give all characters a similar walking animation for consistency. Except for the spawn one. He is like a bad ass enemy so he gets a special one. Stay tuned!

Final enemy characters

15.03.2013:

Today I finalized the concepts in photoshop. I also wanted to start with the animations of those characters but somehow my photoshop kept crashing all the time when I try to rotate certain parts of a character :(

Oh and I'm not sure I mentioned it before. All character should be stickman like. That the reason they are all mainly black and have only some hints of color. It's also the reason for there body shape. But I wanted to give them at least a bit of stature and not being totally stiff, so therefore there are hints of muscles :D Really love this project, it's so much fun to do!

Enemy designs

14.03.2013:

Today is one of those days where all the fun parts happen. Charakter design! Javier wanted the enemy characters to look like heroes of his childhood. Can you recognize all of them?

Ah and to make sure, I'm showing you here more then I actually send to him for feedback^^

Main character done for now

13.03.2013:

And the third day of my new mission ;) Here are the final animations for the main character. Idle, walking and flying. And also a little sheet I showed Javier about the possible arm positions in the flying animation . He wanted them up front, but after showing him the possibilities restricted to the character design he went with the first one. I really enjoy working with him, because he is totally uncomplicated and easy to talk with.

Freelance work

Hi guys, today is my first day of working freelance as a 2d artist. I'm working together with Javier Bryan who is an independent games developer creating a 2d side scroller. More about his game you can find out here. My tasks include the character design of the main character as well as enemies. Besides that I do the character animations, backgrounds and tiles for the first three levels of the game.
Javier was so nice to allow me to share my progress with you guys. So here it goes.

First of the initial concepts for the batman like main character. He choose concept 24. And some scribbles to figure out how I want to animate his cape. I'm completely new to 2d animation. So let's see with what I can come up with. Till tomorrow!
